Liceo Linguistico Internazionale Grazia Deledda
Liceo Linguistico Internazionale Grazia Deledda is one of the oldest high schools for foreign languages in Italy. It was founded in Genova by the Town Council in the late 19th century, and is still managed and funded by the local Municipality through the foundation FULGIS. We have 5-year courses (15-19 years of age) for a total of 30 classes. Alongside traditional subjects like Italian, Latin, Art, Philosophy, History, Maths, Physics, Science and English, our students take two further foreign languages among French, Spanish, German, Russian, Arabic, Chinese and, from 2019, Japanese. We have several international exchanges, an ESABAC stream (French) and a DSD stream (German), and provide afternoon and evening classes for teenagers and adults in several foreign languages and Italian as a foreign language. There are about 700 students and 70 teachers at our school.
There are numerous nationalities at our school. We have students from Albania, China, Ecuador, Sri Lanka, Ukraine, Russia, Thailand, etc. Some of the teachers, especially language teachers, are also from foreign countries, such as Spain, Venezuela, China, France, Israel, Morocco, Austria, Ireland, etc.
Our students who speak a minority language or dialect have the chance of joining the project “Teatro in Lingue”, a drama club which yearly stages a classic story acted in all the native languages of our student-performers. The aim of the project is to foster integration of foreign students and respect for minority languages and communities.
Our school also hosts Genoa Model United Nations, or GeMUN, a simulation of a UN conference which has attracted thousands of students from all over the world every February since 2004.
